PARTY at the FORT

Let’s celebrate winter the best way we know how, with BBQ and bikes!

We’ll bring out the grill to cook lunch and have a fire going to keep warm, plan on groomed fat biking or singletrack riding depending on the weather, sledding for distance if there is enough snow, whatever the weather brings we are up for!

This is a pretty low key social event. Bring your family, bring your bikes, lets have a good time. Meet at the upper Eagle Lake Parking lot pavilion. See you there!

Note: SWMMBA will not be providing any alcoholic beverages, but they are legal to consume at Fort Custer after Labor Day and before April 1st. So if you’d like to bring a beer or two to enjoy by the campfire it certainly wouldn’t be out of place 😉

This is a celebration of the new year, cycling, and downtown Kalamazoo. The ride will take us through parks, parking ramps, campuses, and courtyards around the city. Ride length is typically less than 10 miles and is dictated by the weather and thirst of the riders. The ride will be led by the friendly folks from PEDAL. Amy, Shawn, and the ever-attentive staff at Old Dog will have a selection of food and beverages available for purchase for your pre and post ride pleasure.

Additional Donations:

Open Roads will make good use of your “gently used” bike parts within their in-shop programs (https://www.openroadsbike.org/). Any parts you can part with (😊) are greatly appreciated.

Bike Friendly Kalamazoo | Fall Bike Celebration Ride & Dinner

Unexpected Fundraising Opportunity

A donor who believes in supporting the work of SWMMBA and other eligible regional cycling clubs and advocacy groups has offered to make an unexpected donation based on how many of their members supply their affiliation online when registering for BFK’s Fall Bike Celebration Ride and/or Awards & Recognition Dinner on/by September 17 at www.fallbikecelebration.org. The Ride and Dinner are on Saturday, Sept. 21 in scenic Southwest Michigan.

Depending on how many of us register AND declare our affiliation online, we could receive $100-250-$500 or more just by doing what we love to do anyway while supporting some great bike and community charitable causes at the same time. The donation is based on $5 for each registered rider and/or dinner-goer. This is above and beyond BFK’s publicly advertised “Great Clubs, Great Riders” and LMB’s $1 per Rider program, but in the same spirit.

The Ride is on Saturday, Sept. 21 with routes in the rural area to/from Vicksburg, MI. The routes will take in Shipshewana IN, Climax, Scotts Mill Park with additional loops covering the photogenic Vicksburg Quilt Trail. There is a family trail route and kid’s bike parade, too. An Ice Cream Social should be fun the night before, together with live music in the village and other attractions on Friday. Bike Friendly Kalamazoo has organized a Dinner that evening that might give us insights as to how BFK involves local officials in its advocacy. The Schedule is packed with these and other activities from Friday through Sunday.

If you want to check it out, be sure to mention your affiliation online by September 17, when you register for the Sept. 21 Ride and/or Dinner at www.fallbikecelebration.org

Mountain Biking Camping Trip to Marquette

It’s that time of the year again to to plan a mountain biking get away weekend with your SWMMBA peeps. August 22-25 we will camp at Rippling River Resort in Marquette. The location puts us a few pedal strokes away from the fantastic Noquemanon Trail network and a few short miles to Marquette. This is a family friendly event.

Plenty of sites are still available. All campers must reserve and pay for their own site and provide their own food etc.

Hope you will join for some great riding and fun times!!
